The Long Trip Home •

Looking for travel sites or writing sites (or travel writing sites)? Here are a few websites that we think are worth a visit (or two, or three, or four...).

Travel Links

travelfreestyle: an independent backpacker's guide featuring information on backpacking all over the world (especially Asia) and a forum for registered users.

News Views: A monthly news journal which includes information on travel—specifically travel news and a monthly focus on various places.

Trek Share: With a large group of members, TrekShare hosts a wide variety of travelogues, including photos and place-reviews. It's a good place to check out your destination before you book the trip.

Everything You Need to Know: Information on independent budget traveling (backpacking). Packing, pre-trip, country and on the road advice. Includes large quantity of travel photography and links.

Palmer, California: Specializing in alernative tours, Palmer California will take you through the Southwest USA in vintage-types of cars, giving you the feel of good old-fashioned road trips. Check out their site to learn how to get on board.

Worlds Revealed: A relatively new site with an interesting concept, Worlds Revealed lists cities and countries which you, the reader, can update with your experiences and information. If you know the best hotels in San Francisco or what a perfect weekend would be in Maui, head over there to share your knowledge with others.

The Travel Directory: This site offers comprehensive, user-friendly online information resource for all travelers. If you are planning a trip or just want to explore travel on the internet, this is a good place to start.

Gorp: An outdoors-lover's paradise, Gorp is great for the adventurous backpacker in all of us. If you like hiking, swimming, paddling, or even just dreaming about the great outdoors, check out Gorp's wealth of information on where to go, what to do, and just how close you might be to real adventure (hint: it may be just right around the corner!).

Writing Links

Writers Manual: The place to go for information and tips on how to make your writing career go places.

Arcanum Cafe: A great site with useful links, a quarterly webzine, and an active forum for submitting/critiquing your writing.

The Rose and Thorn Literary E-Zine:A quarterly online literary magazine featuring fiction, poetry, and even writing tips.

Amazon.com: Visit Amazon to purchase anything from books to blenders! Make a purchase through a link from our site, and part of your purchase will go to benefit The Long Trip Home! Great idea, huh?

Travel Photography Links

Travel Images: John Baker's small group photo travel website is a very informative site that discusses his business of photo travel groups. It also showcases some pictures from his trips.

Eye-to-Eye Photography: Douglas W. Roth's collection of travel photography is worth a peak or two, all made possible by his easy-to-navigate website.

Sergio Pitamitz Travel Photography: Wow, these shots go right past post-card worthy. You'll find some great photography on this site.

Jim Tardio Photography: Anyone who starts off with a quote from Steinbeck's Travels With Charley is all right in my book, plus this guy loves Italy. Two thumbs up.

James Tarquin Photography: James Tarquin's travel photography website is classy looking and simple. Check out his adventurous side with some great photos from out-of-the-way places.

Travel Writing Links

Bob Neubauer's Adventure Travel Site: A collection of writings by Bob Neubauer, including travelogues from his adventures throughout the world.

Pack Notes: A website dedicated to travel stories, poetry, and photographs inspired by destinations and voyages.

The Literary Traveler: This is a great idea. A site about literary pilgrimages, The Literary Traveler focuses on the importance of where well-known writers have lived and worked, or places they have made known in their writing, and present day writers who follow their paths. Here you can find Hemmingway's Europe or Faulkner's America, and a long list of other writers who are connected to a place.

Artist at Large: This is a great site for finding creative travel writing, artwork, or even authentic postcards on well known places. Lots of popular European destinations, as well as spots in the states, make this site popular amoung travelers and writers alike.

Hemispheres Magazine: United Airlines' in-flight magazine packs a pretty powerful punch with its well-written travel writing. They keep the artistic edge too, with cover art featuring a new artist each month, and their yearly Hemmingway and Faulkner writing contest. Plus, they have a great travel photography contest yearly.

Seven Seas Magazine: A recommended online ezine that features personal essays related to travel.
