What began as an attempt to jot down her study-abroad memories from Italy in journal form became, for Jackie Goyette, the start of a travel magazine. Somehow Jackie was able to find a fine group of experienced editors who shared this belief, and so The Long Trip Home began, the title an excerpt from a poem by the classic travel poet: Elizabeth Bishop. The site, initially launched back in December of 2001, consists of five categories Landscapes/Cityscapes, Travel Journals, The Road Less Traveled, Fiction & Poetry, and a Spotlight category that changes quarterly. From these five categories we have found writers willing to share their personal stories of adventure, friendship, love evenall in the span of a travelers journey. The stories each remain much their own, the writers as different as wild mountain climbers to luxury travelersbut the thing that unites us (besides our love of travel) is that we are all writers, real writers, first. So what I'm saying is, I wouldn't come here looking for the best hotel in Berlinit might be nestled in one of our articles, but by no means does it have to be. Instead come bearing an open mind, a willingness to travel with a mouse and a keyboard. This site is a passport to places that you may have never heard of, back alleys you may never have thought to wander, perspectives you may have never explored. Finding yourself immersed in someones story, you might even forget that it is miles away from you. (And, honestly, we kind of hope you do.) Dont know enough yet? Take this tour. Explore the following pages to get a better sense of who we are, and make sure to check out our categories to read first hand what The Long Trip Home is about. More about us: |
